This website is maintained by me (Barb Lesniak). I am a lifelong animal lover, and my menagerie currently consists of a horse, three cats, and a bird. I've been an active writer on animal topics, and my work has appeared in HORSE ILLUSTRATED, EQUUS, HORSE & RIDER, and BIRD TALK magazines. For several years, I also authored the "Pet Tips & Tidbits" column in the BLUE ISLAND FORUM newspaper. I have just completed my coursework for my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, and I will be doing practicum work over the next year. I plan to combine my love of animals and my desire to help people by counseling those who are dealing with pet loss. I will be starting a pet loss support group in the Chicago area in spring or summer of 1999. Below are some of my pets; Vinnie and Cochise are quite old now, so I know I will be facing their loss in the near future:

This is Muse, my 12-year-old Tortiseshell who likes to drink out of running faucets and burrow under blankets to sleep.   Vinnie, my 17-year-old "Tuxedo cat" walks on a leash like a dog and lies down, rolls over, sits, and gives paw on command. Vinnie thinks he IS a dog, and he gets along with canines as well as he does with felines. In the cage is my bird, Bradley, who likes to live dangerously.

At right is my 22-year-old Appaloosa gelding, Cochise. I've owned him since he was 4, and he is truly my "baby."
